Where is Home?

Talbot’s new series of oil paintings “Where is Home?” is a segue from her previous painting series “Places in Galicia.”

These new paintings ask the question of where survivors of war can return to after their hometowns have been destroyed or taken over. The images connect people to the events they have suffered, and bear witness to the scars of war and displacement.

Some traveled hundreds of miles to return to where they were born, lived, created families, and where their ancestors are buried. In a Yizkor book it is written “When a person is born, an invisible note is hung on him which he carries on his person all his life— that is his name and the place where he was born.” ¹
